Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
