Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in just about every poker game.
A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, as well as several trying for the low hand. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
