Omaha Hi-Low: General Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha hi low starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complicated at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of the game with ease.
