Omaha Hi/Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha Hi-Lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in nearly all poker games.
A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems complex at first, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an overwhelming range of wagering choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high, and several battling for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
