Omaha Hi Lo: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in nearly all poker games.
A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems complicated initially, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi-low offers an overwhelming array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many players battling for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha High-Low.
