Omaha Hi-Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
Although it seems difficult initially, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an overwhelming collection of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have many players shooting for the high hand, along with a few shooting for the low. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi lo.
