Omaha Hi-Lo: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same notion in just about every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have many players trying for the high hand, along with several trying for the low hand.
